1. Supreme Court

This in-depth dive into the world of the Supreme Court justices has given me a new perspective, and a new respect for the judicial system. Growing up, I saw them as these infuriating individuals who think they know it all, but these videos illustrated the complexity and the intelligence that is required to do what they do.

When I think of the Supreme Court, I think of old, white conservative men who have a fixed mindset on how to follow the constitution. I was pleasantly surprised to see some diversity in the opinions of the justices. For example, Justice Bader Ginsberg states that “we the people” only applied to a certain demographic, but has been making changes to actually include all of the people.

I did know that justices have to do extensive research to know what they are talking about, but I did not realize the amount of responsibility that having this profession comes with. At one point in the video, it was said that they get to tell “the president, congress, and the state what they can and can’t do.”

The whole judicial process in the court was quite interesting to me. Obviously, the lawyers and the justices go back and forth to decide how to properly find a solution, but I had no idea that the justices can go against each other, and write their own opinions, even if it goes against the grain of the others. This whole process can go on for months, but the goal is to be finished by late June.

This documentary has shaped my whole view of the system, and has caused me to admire those who have the guts to make such vast decisions. Supreme Court justices deserve all the recognition in the world for the amount of leadership and capability required to uphold such a job.
